On 31 March 2023, a suspect detonated explosives outside a hotel in Handan city, Hebei Province, after driving his car at high speed through Zhonghua North Street, hitting at least a dozen pedestrians. According to media reporting, a local traffic police officer confronted the driver who got out of his car and detonated the explosives, before walking into a hotel on Lianfang East Road where he was arrested.
