Colombia: Roadside IED Discovered Near Vice President’s Residence

On 9 January 2023, the vice president’s security team discovered an IED, described as containing 7 kilograms [~15.4 lb] of explosives, made of ammonium nitrate, powdered aluminum, and fragmentation, emplaced by a rural road leading to the vice president’s home in the southwestern province of Cauca. Anti-explosives personnel responded to assist and rendered the device safe through a controlled detonation. The incident remains under investigation.

South Africa: Explosives Used in ATM Attack

On 10 January 2023, at approximately 0140 hours local time, four unidentified suspects used explosives to target an ATM at a gas station in Hazyview, Mpumalanga, before fleeing the scene with an unknown amount of cash. The ATM was destroyed and the building sustained extensive damage. No further details on the explosives have been released and no injuries were reported. The investigation is ongoing.

Indiana: Explosive Device Discovered Inside Business

On 6 January 2023, at approximately 1336 hours local time, Elkhart County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to an automotive business on Highway 33/Elkhart Road after a small explosive device was discovered in the shop. No further device details have been released. The Elkhart Police Department Bomb Squad responded to assist and disposed of the device. The incident remains under investigation.

Germany: Explosives Used in ATM Attack

The ATM and the building sustained extensive damage. It is unclear whether any cash was taken and no further details on the explosives have been released.
