On 30 August 2024, at approximately 1130 hours local time, New York City Police Department officers and bomb squad technicians responded to an area near Hughes Avenue in the Bronx for a report of an explosion. An explosive device described as containing pyrotechnic powder was functioned, and the suspect fled the scene on a scooter. No injuries were reported. The investigation is ongoing.

On 29 August 2024, Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department deputies, Meridian Police Department officers, and FBI agents searched a home on the 1200 block of 64th Court in Meridian, which belonged to a former Clarkdale Attendance Center school teacher who had reportedly made threats on social media earlier in the week involving the use of explosives and firearms against named victims. During the search, authorities discovered alleged bomb-making material (BMM) and arrested the 36-year-old male suspect. No additional details were released about the BMM.
On 29 August 2024, at approximately 0845 hours local time, Polk County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Johnston-Grimes Fire Department crews responded to an auto auction business on SE Gateway Drive in Grimes following a report of a suspicious object. An employee discovered what authorities identified as a “crudely made” suspected pipe bomb inside a vehicle. The device was composed of a plastic pipe with a fuse on one end. The area was evacuated, and the Des Moines Bomb Squad was called to assist. Bomb squad technicians removed the device from the scene for further investigation.
On 4 September 2024, at approximately 1100 hours local time, Honolulu Police Department officers responded after an 18-year-old male suspect functioned a pyrotechnic device in a trash can near an ATM at a Honolulu shopping center. The suspect functioned a second device in a trash can beside an escalator, during which time he was under video surveillance by shopping center security. A security guard detained the suspect, who was arrested and charged with suspicion of disorderly conduct and prohibited fireworks.
On 12 August 2024, at approximately 0020 hours local time, Nashville Police Department officers and Nashville Fire Department crews responded to reports of a vehicle on fire. Police officers smelled gasoline inside the vehicle, and fire crews extinguished the remains of the blaze. After a K-9 discovered an incendiary device inside the car, Fire marshals from the State Fire Marshal’s Office were called to inspect the vehicle, confirmed gasoline was inside the car, and declared the fire an act of arson. No further information has been released. The investigation is ongoing.
On 1 September 2024, at approximately 1230 hours local time, Redding Police Department officers and Shasta County Bomb Squad technicians responded after an explosive device, described as a “possible cylindrical explosive device,” was found at a park in the 500 block of Peppertree Lane. Bomb squad technicians examined the device before rendering it safe. No additional device details were provided. The investigation is ongoing.
On 23 August 2024, at approximately 1330 hours local time, New York City Police Department (NYPD) officers discovered a grenade during an investigation at an apartment complex on the 600 block of Arnow Avenue in the Bronx. The NYPD Bomb Squad was called to assist, and bomb squad technicians removed the device. No further information has been released.

On 18 August 2024, at approximately 2045 hours local time, a pyrotechnic device was thrown into a porta-potty at Veteran’s Memorial Park in Dracut, starting a fire inside. The blaze severely damaged the mobile bathroom. Dracut Fire Department crews responded and extinguished the blaze. The incident was captured on surveillance video, and the Dracut Police Department and the Fire Department are working to identify the suspect. The investigation is ongoing.
On 28 August 2024, at approximately 1300 hours local time, a man unsuccessfully attempted to access the mayor’s office at Jeanerette City Hall in Jeanerette. The suspect then functioned a “delayed” improvised incendiary device (IID) outside of the building before fleeing the scene on a bicycle. The blaze from the IID caused minimal damage to the building, and no injuries were reported. The 41-year-old male suspect was arrested and charged with aggravated arson and manufacture and possession of delayed action incendiary devices.
