Texas: Pyrotechnics Functioned at Multiple Residences

On 27 April 2024, at approximately 0000 hours local time, security footage captured a suspect functioning a pyrotechnic on the front porch of a residence on Betty Drive in New Chapel. The pyrotechnic was described as an M-5000 military pyrotechnic that functioned but did not cause any damage or injuries. According to Smith County Constables, a similar incident involving pyrotechnics occurred at four other addresses on the same night. No further information was released.

Pennsylvania: Explosive Device Discovered in Bag

On 25 April 2024, at approximately 2200 hours local time, Slate Belt Regional Police Department officers discovered an explosive device, drugs, and drug paraphernalia in a bag dropped in Nazareth by a wanted suspect fleeing the area. The Bethlehem Bomb Squad responded to the scene to handle the explosive device. The Bangor Police Department, Bushkill Township Police Department, Washington Township Police Department, and Northampton County Sheriff's Office also assisted with the investigation. The 41-year-old male suspect is still at large.

Oregon: Pyrotechnic Device Discovered Following Planned March

On 1 May 2024, at approximately 1700 hours local time, Portland Police Bureau Central Precinct (PPBCP) officers were notified of a gathering in the area of Southwest Park Avenue and Southwest Clay Street that likely resulted from a planned march scheduled for the day. At approximately 1830 hours, officers received a report of an explosion and reports that individuals were committing property damage. Officers from across the city responded to assist PPBCP patrol the area.

New York: Explosive Device Discovered in Residential Neighborhood

On 29 April 2024, at approximately 1100 hours local time, Yonkers Police Department (YPD) officers responded to a location in the 1060 block of Nepperhan Avenue for a reported discovery of an explosive device. YPD officers confirmed the presence of the device, and the YPD’s Emergency Services Unit requested the assistance of the Westchester County Department of Public Safety’s Hazardous Devices Unit. No further details have been released.

New Jersey: BMM Discovered in Home, 1 Arrested

On 19 April 2024, following a collaborative investigation between Township Police, Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, and federal officials, authorities responded to a residence in Maplewood for reports of a juvenile possessing bomb-making material (BMM). Authorities confirmed that the home contained BMM and arrested the juvenile onsite. The juvenile was charged with possession of explosive materials. No further information was released.

California: Pyrotechnics Thrown During Counterprotest

On 30 April 2024, at approximately 2245 hours local time, counterprotestors threw pyrotechnics at a protest encampment on UCLA’s campus in Los Angeles. The counterprotestors also used pepper spray or bear spray. Clashes between protestors and counterprotestors continued throughout the night, with the number of individuals injured unknown. UCLA Campus Police and medical personnel responded to the scene. No further information was released.

California: IEDs, HME, Pyrotechnics, EPCs Discovered in Shooting Suspect’s Home, 1 Arrested

On 25 April 2024, Kings County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) deputies arrested a 25-year-old Lemoore man in connection with a shooting on 19 April. KCSO deputies searched the suspect’s home and discovered explosive precursor chemicals (EPCs), completed homemade explosive material (HME), IEDs, and pyrotechnics. Kings County Fire Department and California Fire Marshal’s Office personnel were called in for assistance. Police believe the suspect had been removing explosive material from illegally acquired commercial manufactured pyrotechnics to construct IEDs and aerial pyrotechnics.

Oregon: IID Thrown at Trailer Home, 1 Arrested

On 18 April 2024, at approximately 0615 hours local time, Portland Fire & Rescue responded to a fire in a trailer home at Southeast 162nd Avenue and Southeast Division Street. Fire crews extinguished the blaze, and no injuries were reported. At approximately 2130 hours, Portland Police Department (PPD) officers were called about suspicious activity at the same intersection, where a neighbor discovered a shopping cart containing improvised incendiary devices (IID), described as Molotov cocktails made from glass bottles, a “greenish” liquid inside, and denim cloth coming out of the tip.

Idaho: IED Discovered Along Highway

On 21 April 2024, a pipe bomb was discovered at one of the turnouts alongside Idaho Highway 55 and taken to the Horseshoe Bend city hall. Boise County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Boise Police Department officers responded to assist. Based on media photos, bomb technicians examined the device using a robot. No further information was provided.

Utah: Dynamite Discovered in Residence

On 23 April 2024, at approximately 0000 hours local time, Unified Fire Authority (UFA) crews responded to a home in Holladay, Salt Lake County, after a large amount of explosive material was found. Hazardous materials teams and bomb squad technicians from the UFA responded to the scene, along with the Utah Department of Health, EPA, Salt Lake Valley Emergency Communications Center, and Unified Police Department of Greater Salt Lake and Holladay City.
