Florida: Chemical Pressure Bomb, Firearms, Silencer, and Drugs Discovered During Traffic Stop, 1 Arrested

On 5 April 2024, at approximately 1430 hours local time, a Putnam County Sheriff’s Office deputy pulled over a vehicle for an illegal license plate near Moseley Avenue and St. Johns Avenue in Palatka. The deputy searched the vehicle and identified a PVC pipe that was sealed at both ends and set it down before the device functioned. The deputy was not injured as his vest absorbed the bulk of shrapnel, but he inhaled chemicals and was sent to the hospital for treatment. The deputy was evaluated and later released in good condition.

UPDATE Alabama: Man Arrested for Functioning IED Outside of State Attorney General’s Office

On 10 April 2024, a 26-year-old male suspect was arrested on charges of malicious use of an explosive and possession of an unregistered destructive device following a joint FBI, ATF, Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, and Montgomery Police Department investigation into a 24 February 2024 incident where the suspect functioned an IED outside of the Alabama Attorney General’s office in Montgomery. No injuries were reported, and the remnants of the device were discovered by employees the following morning, prompting a law enforcement response.

Germany: IEDs and BMM Found in Residence

On 4 April 2024, police discovered several IEDs and bomb
making materials (BMM) while searching an apartment in Wolfsburg. In addition to finding the IEDs and BMM---described as several pipe bombs, “a nail bomb,” explosive precursor chemicals (EPCs), and other material---authorities recovered a rocket launcher tube without a munition, a rifle, and drugs in the apartment. A 25-year-old man and a 20-year-old man were arrested and charged with violating the Weapons and Explosives Acts. No further information was released.

Germany: Incendiary Device Thrown at Synagogue

On 5 April 2024, an incendiary device was thrown at the door of a synagogue in Oldenburg, Lower Saxony. The device ignited a fire that caused minor structural damage to the entryway. Colombia: IED Functioned Outside Police Station

On the evening of 2 April 2024, at approximately 2100 hours local time, an explosion was reported at the Claret Immediate Attention Command police station in the Rafael Uribe district of Bogotá. Bogotá Metropolitan Police officers and bomb technicians responded to the scene, where they determined that an IED contained inside a briefcase had been functioned near the station. No injuries or material damage to the station were reported. No further device details were released. An investigation is ongoing.

United Kingdom: Multiple IIDs Functioned After Parade

On 1 April 2024, attendees of an unsanctioned Easter Rising commemorative parade, including juveniles, threw several improvised incendiary devices (IIDs) following the conclusion of the event in Creggan , Londonderry, Northern Ireland. Attendees prepared IIDs, described as petrol bombs, beforehand and brought them to the event to allegedly use against law enforcement officers. No officers were present at the event, so attendees threw the IIDs at other targets, including a journalist and a parked van that ignited. The Fire and Rescue Service responded to the scene and extinguished the van.

Trinidad and Tobago: IID Thrown at Housing Development, 1 Killed, 3 Injured

On 3 April 2024, at approximately 0300 hours local time, one resident was killed and three others severely injured when an improvised incendiary device (IID) functioned at a house in Couva. Local police and firefighters responded to the scene, where the IID, described as a Molotov cocktail, was thrown at the first floor of the house. Washington: IED Found in Apartment, 1 Arrested

On 28 March 2024, Chelan County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) detectives and officers from multiple police departments raided an apartment in Bellevue in connection with a string of commercial burglaries. At the scene, police discovered an IED, stolen firearms, and stolen tools associated with the commercial burglaries. A 25-year-old male suspect was arrested during the raid. The suspect was charged with second-degree burglary and an outstanding felony warrant. No further device details were released.

Ohio: Explosive Device Functioned Near Vehicle

On 2 April 2024, at approximately 1545 hours local time, an explosive device functioned next to an unoccupied vehicle parked near Cleveland’s Wade Oval public park. The suspected device damaged the car but did not cause any injuries. The Cleveland Police Bomb Squad responded to the scene, and the University Circle Police Department, Case Western Reserve University Police Department, and Cleveland Police Bomb Squad are continuing to investigate.
