Texas: Reckless Driving Leads to Pipe Bomb Discovery

On 19 August 2025 at approximately 0100 hours, a suspect from Midland Texas was caught doing donuts in the parking lot of a local baseball field. After a pursuit, the suspect pulled over in front of a church. While searching the vehicle, officers discovered a plastic PVC cylinder with two metal bolts and a fuse. The suspect claimed it was a firework, but the Fire Marshal later confirmed it was a viable pipe bomb. The suspect was arrested and charged with reckless driving and possession of an improvised explosive device.

Missouri: Suspect Arrested for Allegedly Possessing IED

On 19 August 2025, the Aurora and Marionville Police arrested a suspect for allegedly having an improvised explosive device in his vehicle during a traffic stop in Aurora. The Springfield Fire Department Bomb Squad was called to the scene. The device was determined to be live and safely detonated at a shooting range.  The suspect faces charges of possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of an illegal weapon.

Oregon: Portable Toilet Explosion Caused by M-80 type Pyrotechnic Device

On 17 August 2025, a suspected M-80 style firework was detonated inside a portable toilet in Gresham which prompted a response from the Explosive Disposal Unit (EDU) officer on duty and firefighters. The EDU unit will continue to investigate the incident.

Oregon: Improvised Rocket Motor Discovered in Residence

On 15 August 2025, the bomb squad was called to a residence in Prairie City, after a suspicious device made from a PVC tube with fuses was found. The Oregon State Police Bomb Squad disassembled the device and determined it was a homemade rocket motor.

Iowa: Homemade Explosive Detonates Outside Residence, One Injured and Arrested

On 15 August 2025 at approximately 1630 hours, the Des Moines Police Department (DMPD) responded to a residence on reports of a domestic dispute.  During the investigation, officers learned a suspect detonated a homemade explosive outside the home, causing minor injuries to the suspect.  Officers requested assistance from the DMPD Bomb Squad and Crimes Against Property Section arson investigators.  Authorities say the device was determined to be a metal lunch container containing materials designed to ignite or explode when opened.

California: Domestic Shooting Incident Leads to Discovery of Explosive Devices

On 15 August 2025 at approximately 2130 hours, a son allegedly shot his father at their residence in Pleasanton, California. Officers arrived on scene and discovered multiple improvised explosive devices, material to construct said devices, and unmarked 3D printed guns. The Alameda County Sheriff's Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team entered the scene and removed the devices.

Texas: Reported Bomb Threat at Restaurant, Incendiary Device Found

On 10 August 2025 at approximately 0016 hours, San Antonio Police Officers responded to a reported bomb threat at a restaurant located in the 8600 block of Perrin Beitel. Police notified the employees at the restaurant to evacuate while they were on the way to the scene according to the news reports. The San Antonio Fire Department and arson investigators also responded to the scene. According to the news reports, a small fire was extinguished, and an "incendiary device" was found. Investigators say the suspect was seen fleeing the scene directly after the fire began.

Utah: Man Arrested for Allegedly Having Several Explosive Materials

On 9 August 2025, Cache County Sheriff officials stopped a suspect driving on U.S. 89/91 near Sherwood Hills after they received an anonymous report of the suspect driving intoxicated and possessing bomb parts. During a search of the suspect’s vehicle, officials found what appeared to be a large firework or explosive. Bomb technicians arrived at the scene and took possession of the device. A search warrant was approved for the suspect's home.

Illinois: Undercover Investigation Leads to Large Improvised Explosive Device Cache

On 7 August 2025, Lake County Sheriff's detectives discovered a large number of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) during an undercover sting operation involving 71 stolen stoves and dryers. The Waukegan Bomb Squad was requested to remove and dispose of the IEDs. The suspect faces multiple charges including Theft Over $10,000 (Class 2 felony), Online Sale of Stolen Goods (Class 2 felony), and Unlawful Possession of Explosives (Class 3 felony). No information regarding the IEDs was released.

Colorado: Incendiary Device Found During Traffic Stop

On 7 August 2025, the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) conducted a traffic stop on North Carefree Circle and found a suspected incendiary device inside the vehicle.  The CSPD Regional Explosives Unit was requested to assist. According to a post made by CSPD’s K9 Unit on Facebook, officers located a “suspicious object” taped to a bottle, and it was determined that “the object was an incendiary device, and the duct taped piece was an improvised explosive device.” Per the CSPD’s K9 Unit’s post on Facebook, both devices were rendered safe at the scene.  The suspect
