On 28 September 2025, the Department of Homeland Security seized firearms and a potential explosive device from protestors outside an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention facility in Chicago. The investigation remains ongoing.
On 28 September 2025, at approximately 1025 hours, a mass shooting that uncovered explosive devices occurred at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in Grand Blanc. A 40-year-old suspect opened fire and set the church ablaze. Four Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) were confirmed inside the suspected shooter's vehicle. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives reported the IEDs were constructed from consumer-grade fireworks and smoke canisters.
On 25 September 2025, the Meade County Sheriff’s Office in Brandenburg received a report of a suspicious object after a resident rediscovered a rusted, unidentifiable piece of metal while cleaning their shed. The item was originally discovered several months ago with a metal detector. The resident uploaded a photo of the object to an Artificial Intelligence application, whose response raised concerns and prompted a call to law enforcement.
On 24 September 2025, Pennsylvania State Police responded to a residence following reports of loud explosions in a Jackson Township neighborhood. At the residence, troopers discovered explosive materials on the premises.
On 22 September 2025 shortly after midnight, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office discovered explosive devices in a vehicle during a traffic stop on Main Street in Newcastle. The Maine State Police Bomb Squad and the Office of State Fire Marshal's were called to the scene to examine the device, which was secured and removed for further evaluation, to include a laboratory analysis. On 18 September 2025, police in Niles, Ohio, conducted an investigative stop on a vehicle that appeared out of place. In the vehicle, officers discovered homemade explosives, guns and ammunition. During questioning, the suspect mentioned a second car abandoned near the Eastwood Mall Complex. Officers notified Howland Police and inspected the second vehicle, bringing in a bomb-sniffing dog that detected a possible bomb odor.
On 18 September 2025, at approximately 1330 hours, a woman walking near Tonasket High School in Tonasket discovered a suspicious device on a nearby path and reported it to the Okanogan County Sheriff’s Office. The Spokane Bomb Squad was dispatched to the scene and confirmed that the object was an improvised explosive device (IED) containing black powder. The bomb squad conducted a controlled detonation of the device.
On 16 September 2025, at approximately 1021 hours, Oregon State Parks reported a suspicious backpack found in a public restroom at the Sunset Beach State Recreation Site in Clatsop County to the Oregon State Police (OSP). OSP and the Salem Police Department responded promptly with bomb technicians. The backpack was confirmed to contain an explosive device, which was safely destroyed by the bomb squad. The scene was rendered safe, and no injuries were reported.
On 15 September 2025, at approximately 1030 hours, a resident in Sidney, Ohio, reported the discovery of a possible explosive device at their private residence, located near the intersection of NW Avenue and Pike Street, to the Sidney Fire Department. The resident had moved the device to their front porch prior to notifying authorities. Sidney law enforcement and the Dayton Police Department Bomb Squad responded promptly, evacuating nearby residents. The bomb squad assessed the device, safely removed it, and disposed of it.
On 15 September 2025, Maine State Police and Biddeford Police Department investigated a report of potential threats made by an individual at a restaurant in Cornish, directed towards the University of New England (UNE) in Biddeford. A 24-year-old suspect was detained, evaluated at a hospital, and later transported to jail. The state fire marshal's office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation responded to assist in the investigation. During the investigation, agencies found bomb-making materials in the suspect’s residence.
