On 29 August 2024, at approximately 0845 hours local time, Polk County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Johnston-Grimes Fire Department crews responded to an auto auction business on SE Gateway Drive in Grimes following a report of a suspicious object. An employee discovered what authorities identified as a “crudely made” suspected pipe bomb inside a vehicle. The device was composed of a plastic pipe with a fuse on one end. The area was evacuated, and the Des Moines Bomb Squad was called to assist. Bomb squad technicians removed the device from the scene for further investigation.

On 12 August 2024, at approximately 0020 hours local time, Nashville Police Department officers and Nashville Fire Department crews responded to reports of a vehicle on fire. Police officers smelled gasoline inside the vehicle, and fire crews extinguished the remains of the blaze. After a K-9 discovered an incendiary device inside the car, Fire marshals from the State Fire Marshal’s Office were called to inspect the vehicle, confirmed gasoline was inside the car, and declared the fire an act of arson. No further information has been released. The investigation is ongoing.

On 23 August 2024, at approximately 1330 hours local time, New York City Police Department (NYPD) officers discovered a grenade during an investigation at an apartment complex on the 600 block of Arnow Avenue in the Bronx. The NYPD Bomb Squad was called to assist, and bomb squad technicians removed the device. No further information has been released.

On 28 August 2024, at approximately 1300 hours local time, a man unsuccessfully attempted to access the mayor’s office at Jeanerette City Hall in Jeanerette. The suspect then functioned a “delayed” improvised incendiary device (IID) outside of the building before fleeing the scene on a bicycle. The blaze from the IID caused minimal damage to the building, and no injuries were reported. The 41-year-old male suspect was arrested and charged with aggravated arson and manufacture and possession of delayed action incendiary devices.

On 24 August 2024, at approximately 2200 hours local time, Honolulu Police Department (HPD) officers responded to a residence on Koolani Drive in Mililani Mauka, after a neighbor reported seeing the suspect carrying an improvised incendiary device (IID), described as a Molotov cocktail. Upon the arrival of HPD officers, the suspect barricaded himself inside his house and refused to exit. Officers checked the outside of the home and discovered an unspecified explosive device that had been ignited and was still smoldering.
