California: Pipe Bomb Discovered by Hikers on Bureau of Land Management Trail

On 6 August 2025, the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad was requested to investigate a suspected pipe bomb that was discovered near a trail in Weaverville by Trinity County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) deputies. The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad confirmed the pipe bomb was a viable IED and worked quickly to render it safe. TCSO deputies searched the area for additional devices with negative results. The United States Bureau of Land Management is conducting an investigation to determine the origin of the device.

On 6 August 2025, the Delaware County Sheriff's Office responded to a 911 call of an individual threatening self-harm with a firearm. Following this incident, on 8 August 2025, deputies, investigators, and an Explosive Detection K-9 unit were deployed for the search of additional firearms at the individual’s residence. Investigators located precursors for bomb and explosive device construction, drug paraphernalia, a rocket launcher, rifle, and a homemade explosive device.

New York: Narcotics Arrest Results in Explosive Device and Bomb-Making Material Discovery

On 5 August 2025, a 34-year-old Long Island man was arrested at his home for narcotics related charges. During a search of the suspect's residence, investigators discovered five improvised explosive devices (IEDs), 25 one-pound containers of smokeless gun powder, and one eight-pound container of smokeless gun powder. The Nassau County Arson Bomb Squad responded and removed the five IEDs and bomb making material.

Mississippi: 27-year-old Woman Arrested for Possession of Bomb-Making Materials and Explosive Device

On 4 August 2025, the ATF, Panola County Sheriff’s Office, Tupelo Bomb Squad and the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics executed a search warrant at the residence of a 27-year-old woman who is allegedly connected to an improvised explosive device (IED) that was emplaced on a victim's car on 20 June 2025. During the search, authorities discovered bomb-making materials along with homemade explosives, firearms, narcotics and a viable IED.

Illinois: Boyfriend of Inmate Detonates Explosive Device Behind Jail

On 2 August 2025, a Barry, Illinois suspect allegedly detonated an explosive device behind the Pike County Jail while demanding authorities release his girlfriend from jail. The 23-year-old suspect was arrested and charged with possession of an incendiary device, unlawful possession of a weapon, and criminal damage to government property. Additionally, the suspect was also charged with three counts of intimidation for allegedly messaging threats to harm people and detonate explosive devices through the inmate text messaging service.

Tennessee: Intoxicated Man Caught with Two Improvised Explosive Devices

On 1 August 2025 shortly after midnight, Oliver Springs Police Department officers were called to investigate a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of a convenience store on East Tri County Boulevard in Oliver Springs. Officers found a 35-year-old suspect unconscious and partially hanging out of his car. After taking the suspect into custody, officers searched the suspect's car and discovered two homemade cylindrical explosive devices and notified the Knoxville Police Department Bomb Squad to respond and render the devices safe.

Tennessee: Police Discovered 14 IEDs During Search

According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, a 54-year-old man from Old Fort, threatened to kill public officials and law enforcement personnel. When deputies and detectives arrived at his home with an arrest warrant on 1 August 2025, they discovered a "smoldering" improvised explosive device (IED) inside the suspect's bedroom. Chattanooga Police Department’s Bomb Squad and ATF agents responded and found a total of 14 IEDs. The suspect later told officers he planned to ignite the explosives as officers approached the house.

California: ISIS Sympathizer Arrested with Improvised Explosive Device

On 1 August 2025, a man was arrested in Long Beach, CA for allegedly sending a dozen payments to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), a designated foreign terrorist organization. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) conducted a search at the suspect’s residence and recovered explosives during the arrest.

Massachusetts: Suspect Allegedly Left IEDs on the Boston Common, One Arrested

On 23 July 2025, a suspect allegedly left two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) on the Boston Common. The complaint reportedly stated the homemade IEDs appeared to be made from toilet paper roll cores with attached fuses, and X-ray examinations found they likely contained black powder. The suspect was arrested on 7 August 2025 and charged with vandalism and destruction of property, vandalizing a war or veterans memorial, and possession, transportation or use of a hoax device or substance.

New Jersey: Suspect Detonated Explosive at a Residence, One Arrested

On 26 July 2025, at approximately 0242 local time, an explosive device detonated in the vicinity of a silver Ford Explorer owned by a victim and parked in the victim’s driveway located in Delran, New Jersey. The explosion caused a debris field extending out approximately 100 feet in diameter, with various nails and bolts lodged in both the body of the Ford Explorer and in adjacent residential homes. Following the explosion, law enforcement recovered one damaged 9-volt battery, two damaged antenna parts, and one damaged fire pyrotechnic device.
