Wisconsin: Bomb-making materials found at suspect's work, one arrested

West Allis: On 5 January 2026, a 48-year-old male suspect was arrested following an investigation by West Allis Police. The investigation started on 30 December 2025 after police received a tip claiming the suspect was constructing pipe bombs while working at a landscaping business in West Allis. The suspect had previously assembled and detonated an explosive device and had provided the tipster with an explosive device. During a search of the business, authorities found all necessary components, materials and tools needed to construct multiple improvised explosive devices.

Ohio: Suspected explosive materials discovered after reports of explosions, one arrested

Cambridge: On 5 January 2026, at approximately 2300 local time, Guernsey County Sheriff’s Office and the Cambridge Fire Department responded to reports of explosions near Campbell Street. Fireworks and suspected explosive materials were discovered on the property, prompting the involvement of the Franklin County Bomb Squad. A 74-year-old man was taken into custody without incident and is pending charges. The bomb squad safely detonated the materials under controlled conditions.

California: Possible improvised grenades discovered on vacant property near school

Rosemead: On 14 January 2026, at approximately 1230 local time, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department responded to a call about the discovery of possible explosives at a vacant property located in the 7500 block of Emerson Place. The property is located near the Ralph Waldo Emerson Elementary School, which was placed on lockdown until students were released around 1500 local time. Los Angeles Sheriff's Department Arson and Explosives Detail was dispatched to identify and safely remove the possible explosives.

California: Live explosive found in residence, one arrested

Visalia: On 7 January 2026, during a probation search of a 37-year-old man's residence located in the 600 block of South Church Street, police discovered an item resembling a grenade. The Visalia Police Department Bomb Unit was called to the scene and safely took custody of the device. Authorities later confirmed that it was a live explosive. The suspect was arrested and booked on charges of possession of an explosive device.

Arizona: Live improvised explosive device found in Willcox

Willcox: On 6 January 2026, at 1730 local time, multiple public safety agencies responded to a report of a suspected pipe bomb in the 500 block of West Patte Road. Willcox Police Department, Willcox Fire Department, Cochise County Sheriff’s Office and Healthcare Innovations EMS were dispatched to the scene. Cochise County Sheriff’s Office Explosives Ordnance Technicians initially assessed the device and determined it was likely a live explosive, prompting a request for the Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZ DPS) Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team.

Texas: Negligent discharge of firearm leads to discovery of explosive device, two injured, one arrested

San Antonio: On 1 January 2026, at approximately 2230 local time, the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) responded to reports of a shooting at an apartment complex on Utopia Lane. Upon arrival, officers found two individuals, an 18-year-old male and a 20-year-old female, with gunshot wounds to their legs. Police determined that the 18-year-old male mishandled the firearm, leading to a negligent discharge. While on scene, SAPD also found a suspicious device and evacuated the building.

Texas: Suspect wanted after two pipe bombs detonate at construction site

Falfurrias: On 2 January 2026, Falfurrias Police, Corpus Christi Police Department bomb squad, Brooks County Sheriff’s Office, and members of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives responded to a building near Highway 285 East and Best Street following a reported pipe bomb explosion. Police reported an unknown suspect detonated two pipe bombs in a funeral home under construction, causing minor damage. The incident is under investigation.

Arkansas: Suspected World War II-era grenades found in Goodwill donation box, rendered safe

Jonesboro: On 9 January 2026, at approximately 1300 local time, Jonesboro Police Department (JPD) including an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team from Little Rock Air Force Base in Jacksonville, Arkansas arrived at a Goodwill store on South Caraway Road. Store employees had discovered two suspected World War II-era grenades in a donation box after an elderly woman had donated her late husband’s belongings. JPD confirmed the devices looked like grenades and contacted the EOD team. The EOD team rendered the two grenades safe with a controlled detonation.

Alabama: Bomb-making materials discovered in residence, one arrested

Jasper: On 2 January 2026, at approximately 1500 local time, the Walker County Sheriff’s Office arrested a male suspect for unlawful manufacturing of a destructive device and two counts of chemical endangerment of a child. This occurred while conducting a missing person’s investigation into the suspect’s child, who was later found deceased. During the search of the suspect’s property, precursor materials for explosive manufacturing and evidence of explosive detonations were discovered.

Texas: Explosive precursors and explosive devices found in residence, one arrested

San Antonio: On 12 December 2025, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) executed a search warrant at a 43-year-old male suspect’s residence and was assisted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), San Antonio Fire Department Arson Bureau, San Antonio Police Department (SAPD), Bexar County Fire Department, Bexar County Fire Marshal’s Office and Bexar County Emergency Management. The suspect was identified as an individual who allegedly placed pipe bombs at the external ATMs of two San Antonio banks on 12 and 26 September.
