Florida: Goodwill store evacuated after live hand grenade found in donation bin

Palatka: On 11 December 2025, a Goodwill was evacuated after police reported a live hand grenade was found in a donation bin. The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office’s Bomb Squad was called in to assist in the situation, where they safely transported the grenade to a secure location and detonated it remotely.

Utah: Police discover six pipe bombs and a seventh in progress during synagogue threat investigation, one arrested

Ogden: On 23 December 2025, Ogden police investigated a reported threat against synagogues posted to social media by a 21-year-old male suspect. After police identified the user of the account, they proceeded to the suspect’s home, where they found a total of six pipe bombs and a seventh partially assembled. Additionally, police recovered an unspecified quantity of drugs.

Texas: IEDs and bomb-making materials discovered during execution of search warrant, one arrested

Midland: On 4 December 2025, at approximately 1630 local time, Midland Police Department's Threat Assessment Group (TAG) in Midland, arrested a 46-year-old male suspect after methamphetamines and explosive materials were discovered in his apartment during the execution of a search warrant in the 5000-block of West Loop 250 North. The male suspect was wanted and believed to be armed.

Kansas: Iola Police find a chemical reaction bomb in a ditch

Iola: On 14 December 2025, Iola Police responded to a tip regarding a suspicious device and found what appeared to be what local police describe as a “chemical reaction bomb” in a ditch in Iola. The device was discovered near Cottonwood and Buchanan Streets. The Kansas Highway Patrol Bomb Squad safely removed the device, after which police executed a search warrant at a nearby home on North Cottonwood Street. The suspect remains at large, and authorities’ state charges for criminal use of an explosive are being pursued.

California: Vehicle stop leads to discovery of an IED; device rendered safe, one arrested

Eureka: On 13 December 2025, at approximately 0102 local time, Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) deputies approached two suspects in the vicinity of a gas station. After identifying the suspects, deputies determined that one suspect was on probation. Deputies then initiated a vehicle search, during which they discovered an improvised explosive device (IED). Deputies halted the search and took both suspects into custody and contacted the HCSO Explosive Ordnance Detail (EOD). HCSO EOD responded and rendered the IED safe.

Oregon: Pipe bomb discovered inside vehicle, one arrested

Eugene: On 3 December 2025, at approximately 2230 local time, Eugene Police Department arrested a 43-year-old male suspect and found a pipe bomb inside his vehicle. The man previously fled a traffic stop and was later located near 2700 block of Willakenzie Road and detained without incident. The Metro Explosives Disposal Unit arrived after the arrest and determined the device to be a pipe bomb and seized it. Police have not released further details. The suspect was held at the county jail on two warrants, charges of eluding police, and unlawful possession of a destructive device.

Pennsylvania: Drug bust leads to discovery of a homemade explosive, one arrested

DuBois: On 17 December 2025, in the early morning, Pennsylvania State Police conducted a narcotics search at a residence along South Highland Street. During the search, they discovered a black CO2 canister wrapped in black tape, with a metal pipe attached to it, along with two protruding wires. The Hazardous Device and Explosives Unit was called in and determined that the canister was an improvised explosive device.

Colorado: Five pipe bombs discovered at consignment store, rendered safe

Craig: On 09 December 2025, at approximately 1645 local time, Craig Police responded to a consignment store in Craig, after the owner discovered suspicious items. The items were described as pipes with caps and fuses. Craig Police confirmed that the items were five pipe bombs. The Grand Junction Police Department bomb squad responded, removed the pipe bombs, and rendered them safe through a controlled detonation. The origin of the pipe bombs and how they came to the consignment store remain under investigation.

Ohio: Explosive device found during traffic stop in Coshocton, two arrested

Coshocton: On 13 December 2025, at approximately 0128 local time, police conducted a vehicle stop near the 1000 block of Chestnut Street in Coshocton. While searching the vehicle, officers discovered an unknown device and requested assistance from the Franklin County Bomb Squad. Upon arrival, the bomb squad rendered the device safe. Following the discovery, two men were taken into custody. Later that day, detectives executed search warrants at the homes of the individuals arrested, uncovering narcotics, drug trafficking equipment, and stolen firearms.

Idaho: Pipe bomb discovered in residence during routine residence check, one arrested

Coeur d’Alene: On 18 December 2025, during a routine residence check on a 52-year-old male as part of his probation, Coeur d’Alene Police Community Action Team and Idaho Probation and Parole officers discovered an explosive device and weapons. Police identified the device as an active pipe bomb and requested the Spokane Bomb Squad to respond and safely neutralize the device. In addition, methamphetamines and marijuana were also discovered at the scene.
