Wilburton: On 19 January 2026, Latimer County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of two potentially explosive artillery shells that a local resident possessed. Oklahoma Highway Patrol bomb squad and members of a US Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit from Fort Sill also responded to assess the danger posed by these military-grade ordnance items. An assessment determined the shells were too aged to move safely, so they were rendered safe in a controlled detonation. The larger of the two artillery shells was determined to be a live round. 

Berkeley: On 26 January 2026, the discovery of approximately two liters of decades-old picric acid, previously used in an old photography lab at a home on Colusa Avenue, prompted Berkeley officials to evacuate the home and adjacent houses and issue a shelter-in-place order for the neighborhood. According to Berkeley police, picric acid is highly volatile and is no longer commonly used. Fire and police officials stated the amount of picric acid found had the explosive potential of a pipe bomb if activated.

Altoona: On 20 January 2026, the Altoona Police and Fire Department responded to an apartment complex on 13th Avenue, following a report of suspicious items found. Upon arrival, Altoona Police contacted Pennsylvania State Police Bomb Squad after discovering three improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in a vacant apartment. The bomb squad safely removed the devices, and there was no threat to other complex occupants. The investigation is ongoing.

Oak Park: On 12 January 2026, in the early morning hours, two unknown male suspects forced entry into a restaurant on North Marion Street and used tools, along with an unknown explosive device, to gain access to the restaurant safe. The incident remains under investigation by the Oak Park Police.

Dime Box: On 14 January 2026, the Lee County Sheriff's Office responded to a call regarding suspected explosive devices near the intersection of Bowers Street and County Road 425. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office worked with officers from Lee County Constable Precinct 4 to secure the area and safely handle the devices. Police advised residents and the public to avoid the intersection.
