New Jersey: Student in Possession of a Pyrotechnic Prompts School Evacuation

On 10 October 2025, a student at Winslow Township High School in Atco was detained after the school resource officer learned of the student possibly being in possession of an explosive device. A search of the suspect resulted in a large firework being recovered. The Winslow Township Police Department secured all students and staff, and the school was evacuated.  The Camden County Sheriff's Department K9 Unit and Bomb Squad searched the school and did not locate any additional devices. A second student was detained.

Missouri: Pipe Bomb Materials Found in Vehicle in Business Parking Lot, Two Arrested

On 10 October 2025, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and Ava Police Department responded to an area business parking lot in Ava after receiving a report from a concerned citizen seeing what appeared to be a homemade pipe bomb being passed between individuals in a vehicle.  A search of the vehicle revealed gunpowder, fuse material, pipe fittings, duct tape, and steel pipes — components consistent with improvised explosive devices.

Arizona: Pipe Bomb discovered in Possession of Murder Suspect During Traffic Stop, One Arrested

On 8 October 2025, the Tucson Police Department conducted a traffic stop in Tucson on a 44-year-old male suspect out on bond for a 2024 homicide and discovered a pipe bomb in the vehicle.  The Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit responded to the scene and rendered the device safe.  The suspect was arrested on charges of possession of a prohibited weapon, prohibited possessor, and disorderly conduct.

Oregon: Pipe Bomb Discovered in a Citizen's car While Driving; Device Disabled and Removed

On 7 October 2025, Oregon State Police (OSP) bomb squad responded to a report of a pipe bomb in a citizen's vehicle in Baker City, which was discovered while driving. The citizen drove to the Baker County Sheriff's Office to report the device. The OSP bomb squad removed and disabled the device. OSP is analyzing the device, which consisted of what appears to be some sort of “explosive powder” inside a plastic cylinder. Police are investigating how the device was placed in the vehicle.

Washington D.C.: Suspect Arrested for Possession of Homemade Explosives Outside Cathedral

On 5 October 2025, a 41-year-old male suspect was arrested in Washington, D.C. outside of the Cathedral of Saint Matthew the Apostle for multiple charges, including possession of homemade explosives and making threats to injure people. A search of the suspect's tent on the cathedral steps revealed over 200 destructive devices.  The handmade devices found inside the tent appeared to be "fully functional," and parts intended to be converted into a destructive device were also found, according to news reports.

Washington: Suspect Arrested for Alleged Firework Apartment Explosion and Fire

On 5 October 2025, at approximately 0538 hours, the Pullman Police and Fire, Moscow Fire, and Whitman County Fire District 12 responded to an active fire at an apartment complex on Larry Street in Pullman.  Investigators allege a 40-year-old male suspect fired a firework mortar inside his unit, blowing a hole through the ceiling and sparking the fire. This explosion forced roughly 30 people to evacuate and caused significant damage to the apartment building.  No injuries were reported.

On 3 October 2025, the Wareham Fire Department, Wareham EMS, Wareham Police Department, State Police Fire & Explosion Investigation Unit assigned to the State Fire Marshal’s office, additional State Police assets, and Department of Fire Services (DFS) Hazmat technicians responded to Aunt Maryville Lane in Wareham for a report of an explosion in a dwelling.

Florida: Murder Suspect Faces Additional Charges after 71 Explosives Found in Home

On 14 August 2025, Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office (M-DSO) deputies responded to a 63-year-old male suspect’s house in Homestead.  M-DSO deputies with the bomb squad and arson units, federal agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, Homeland Security, and a Miami-Dade Fire Department investigator also responded.  The suspect’s son allegedly reported his father had kept 71 PVC cylinder pipe-style explosives and firearms in several military grade ammunition boxes labeled “explosives” or “smoke” in the house.

Texas: Pipe Bomb Found in Apartment Complex

On 30 September 2025, a maintenance worker discovered a live pipe bomb at a Northwest Side apartment complex in San Antonio, and brought it to the apartment office, where it was left outside. Police were called out at approximately 0900 hours, and they called in the bomb squad. The bomb squad confirmed the pipe bomb was live, made the device safe for transport, and removed it from the area where it will be destroyed. Police evacuated residents from the nearby buildings and shut down an access road near Interstate 10.
