McAllen: On 1 February 2026, around 1227 local time, police officers responded to a call for a “live explosive device” at McAllen-Miller International Airport. The Transportation Security Administration discovered the device while screening luggage and contacted the police department. Officers determined the device was a flash-bang grenade and belonged to a Border Patrol Agent, a 42-year-old male suspect. The suspect was arrested on suspicion of weapon-places prohibited, a third-degree felony and transported to jail.

Bridgewater: On 3 February 2026, at approximately 1600 local time, Bridgewater State University Police were dispatched to a dining hall after a manager discovered a suspicious package inside their office. The package, described as a medium-sized silver metal case, contained a sticky note that read “BOMB DO NOT OPEN.” A separate note attached to the case read, “J/K student left gaming case.” Out of an abundance of caution, university police evacuated students and staff from the dining hall and requested assistance from the Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad.

Mount Vernon: On 29 January 2026, at approximately 1715 local time, the Mount Vernon Police and the Bellingham Police Hazardous Device Unit (HDU) responded to a local church on East Evergreen Street, after the discovery of a "tennis ball bomb." The HDU confirmed the device as an improvised explosive device (IED) and safely disposed of it. The Mount Vernon Police are continuing the investigation into the device.

Helena: On 29 January 2026, at approximately 1000 local time, Helena Police responded to a health club on North Montana Avenue following the discovery of a suspicious device described as a jug of gasoline with fireworks. The Lewis and Clark County Sheriff’s Office bomb squad, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, and the FBI assisted to assess and mitigate the device. The device was in an area where a planned protest by Helena High students was to be held; due to security concerns the protest was cancelled.

Bell Gardens: On 27 January 2026, at approximately 1900 local time, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office Special Enforcement Bureau – Arson and Explosives Detail and Los Angeles County Firefighters, responded to an apartment complex on Purdy Avenue following an explosion that killed two, injured one, and extensively damaged the building. Police reported they identified materials consistent with homemade explosives and fireworks, including energetic powder, and believe the explosion was caused during the construction of a homemade explosive or fireworks.
