Florida: Space Force responds to unexploded ordnance found at construction site

Cocoa Beach: On 24 February 2026, the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office and members of the 45th Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit responded to Ramp Road Park on Ramp Road in Cocoa Beach, FL, to remove unexploded ordnance found there, identified as a World War 2-era practice bomb. The practice bomb was uncovered by construction crews working in the area on a new elementary school. The Space Force EOD team reported the practice bomb did not contain high explosives but did have a smoke charge to mark impact during training.

Kentucky: Bomb Squad responds to donated suspicious item

Florence: On 23 February 2026, in the morning, an item resembling an artillery shell was found among the donations at the Erlanger St. Vincent de Paul. The item was left in an outdoor donation bin on Sunday, so employees don't know who left it. Employees notified police who advised the employees and volunteers to evacuate. The store wasn't open yet, so no customers were inside. Police worked with Emergency Management, and Cincinnati's Hazardous Device Team to determine the shell was inert and decorative.

Washington: Suspected military explosive brought into city hall building; safely removed

Kent: On 23 February 2026, at approximately 1336 local time, an unknown individual brought a suspected “military-grade” explosive into Kent City Hall on 4th Avenue South in Kent, WA intending to have it be disposed of properly. The Kent Police responded along with a bomb squad unit who safely removed the device. Details on the nature of the device were not provided.

Pennsylvania: Firefighters battle fire near explosives; evacuation order lifted

Montrose: On 21 February 2026, at approximately noon emergency crews responded to a kitchen fire at a residence along State Route 3001 in Elk Lake. The Fire Chief of Elk Lodge stated, "The homeowner came to me and said that they had dynamite stored in the basement, and I had to pull all units out of the residence, and we went into a defensive mode and evacuated the area until the Pennsylvania State Police bomb squad could arrive and verify that the problem was taken care of". Emergency response crews evacuated residents near the scene due to the possible explosion risk.

Michigan: Police discover explosives and ammunition during search warrant execution, one arrested

Ionia: On 20 February 2026, Ionia County Sheriff’s Office and the Michigan State Police bomb squad conducted a search warrant at a private residence where they found explosives, drugs and a large number of firearms and ammunition. Police also seized items belonging to the Michigan Department of Corrections, including riot helmets, tear gas canisters, pepper spray, tear gas, a taser, taser cartridges, and a case of ammunition.

Maryland: State troopers recover IED during search of residence; rendered safe, two arrested

Cumberland: On 19 February 2026, Maryland State Troopers responded to a residence on Tulip Street in Cumberland, MD. While on scene, troopers heard a gunshot and later recovered a discarded firearm. Troopers later encountered two 21-year-old male suspects. During a search of their residence, troopers recovered five “ghost” guns, 600 rounds of ammunition, a 3D printer, and an IED. The bomb squad of the Office of the State Fire Marshal responded and confirmed the IED to be a live weapon and it was rendered safe.

Nevada: Police recover explosive materials from hotel following possible terrorist attack

Boulder City: On 19 February 2026, at approximately 1000 local time, a 23-year-old male suspect carried out a vehicle ramming attack against a power substation on El Dorado Drive in Boulder City, NV then killed himself with a self-inflicted gunshot, according to reports. From the suspect’s vehicle, police recovered multiple firearms and what was described as a flamethrower. During a search of his hotel room, at El Rancho Boulder Motel on Nevada Way, Las Vegas Metro Police and the FBI recovered explosive materials, described in some reports as explosive gas.

New Mexico: Torch lighter resembled a hand grenade; Social Security office evacuated

Albuquerque: On Thursday, 19 February 2026, around midday, a Social Security office in Albuquerque had to be evacuated due to a torch lighter that looked like a hand grenade. A police spokesperson says the “grenade” was discovered while x-raying a man’s belongings as he was entering the office. A bomb squad remotely inspected the item and confirmed it was not an explosive hazard. It was identified as a torch lighter resembling a hand grenade. The building was reopened, and FBI agents arrived to interview the suspect. The suspect remains in federal custody.

North Carolina: Flashbang explosive device found near early voting site

Aberdeen: On 18 February 2026, around 1430 local time, a witness reported to Aberdeen Police Department a loud noise and small explosion occurred near the early voting poll at Aberdeen Lake Park. Initially it was assumed a local transformer had blown. The Aberdeen Police Department responded, and investigators found a civilian-style flashbang several feet from the roadway at US-1 and Lake Shore Drive, about 150 yards from the voting site. Police say 30 witnesses were interviewed, with many saying the device appeared to have been thrown from a moving vehicle headed southbound on US-1.

California: Search warrant for drugs recovers several explosives; three arrested, devices removed

Yucaipa: On 17 February 2026, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies with the Gang and Narcotics Unit arrested three male suspects aged 55, 35, and 27, while serving a search warrant on a private residence on the 13000-block of Maplewood Drive in Yucaipa, CA. During the search, deputies located and seized firearms, ammo, and fentanyl as well as several suspected explosive devices. After finding the suspected explosives, deputies from the Bomb and Arson Division along with special agents from the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives responded to assist.
